I have been wanting to make a list of the gadgets that I have purchased or plan to purchase, and some of the technologies that I am playing with. Hopefully, at some time this will evolve into something bigger, but I don’t know what direction it will take as of now. The following list, are things that I have recently bought or I am about to buy. I will also be writing some quick reviews about the items as I use them. So stay tuned for that.
One of my special projects, which I have already started, is to build a webserver. If I am successful with this project, I hope to host a few of my personal websites from it. So far, I have built a new machine for this webserver. It is an AMD 2400+ based machine with an Abit NF7-S motherboard, Corsair 512MB DDR400 PC3200 memory, Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB SATA Hard drive, there is also a brand new Maxtor 40GB hard drive that I had lying around that I put in there. I have purchased the Plextor 708A DVD burner and installed it in my main computer. I had a Plextor 40x CD burner in there and now it is in the webserver. This machine would make a nice computer for everyday use with a few more additions but my goal is to make a webserver with plenty of space. So far there is 200GB of space which should hold me for a little while. On this box I have installed Linux Red Hat. It is my first time using a Linux OS, so there is a learning curve there. It appears to be pretty easy to use so far. That is the first stage of my webserver project. The next step will be to install the Apache Webserver and install PERL. I will keep you all updated on my progress.
Sorry!!! My brother has reminded me that I forgot the TiVos. They are now added to the list and I will definitely do a write up on it. I am thoroughy enjoying them so far.
