BMW 645 CI Convertible

On the way to work this morning I had the pleasure of trying to keep up with a BMW 645 CI Convertible. Don’t worry, it was bumper to bumper traffic so most of the time I was just sitting behind the vehicle admiring it. This is the first one I have seen off the pages of a magazine. It looks a lot meaner in person than it does in picture. So of course I had to look it up. First thing to notice is that the sticker price is $76,300(Base MSRP). After adding all the special packages and the gold or platinum markings, I sure the price will hover around $100,000. So of course I have to put this little luxury item on my “things to buy when I win the lottery” list. Here are a few words from some critics about this car.

“Handling is precise, with a superb self-centering feel to the steering. It goes around high-speed turns like it’s on rails.”

“Powered
by the same 4.4-liter V8 found in the flagship 7 Series, the 645i has
more than enough power to keep pace with its rivals.”

“BMW’s
much maligned iDrive system controls the car’s various functions while
classic analog gauges provide the more pertinent information.”

“The seats are comfortable and supportive, more comfortable than the ultra-firm seats found in some of BMW’s sports packages.”

I think I will have to take one of these for a test drive one day. ;-)

Checkout the specs.

The cars’ standard specs are seriously impressive: big-screen navigation, bi-xenon headlights, carphone, 13-speaker sound system with CD changer and iDrive control, voice control preparation, run-flat tyres, automatic wipers and lights, power seats, the new “active” steering, automatic air-con, cruise control with automatic following distance control, ignition key memory that adjusts all the settings you can think of to your preferences. . .

There’s also parking distance control with a screen display (see picture), power adjustment and memories for the sports seats, corner-beating swivel headlights. . .

Oh yes, and a cupholder . . . mustn’t forget that.

The boot lid and front wings are made of deformable plastic, the boot of a composite metal and plastic material that has allowed the radio and communications aerials to be housed within it, the bonnet and doors are aluminium – if you’re seriius about buying, ask you local dealer to go through the rest.

There’s even a huge glass roof covering most of the coupé’s cabin that, though it does not slide open, can be lifted electrically to enjoy most of the benefits of fresh-air motoring

Frankly, you’re getting a tremendous package for an all-in price. BMW sees the car as slotting in between Porsche’s 911 and Merc’s SL range.

I didn’t hit the lotto but I bought one anyway. I was thinking M3 when I went to the dealer - I didn’t even know the 6 was out there! And it seduced me right there in front of everyone! I’ve had it a couple months and it just keeps surprising me with its solid, luxurious, powerful feel. The manual said you could defeat all the traction control “for sport maneuvers” - got to love ther writing. Anyway, why would anyone spend that kind of money to putt around - DCS is always defeated when I drive. I was nervous about 330bph with possi flipping out into a curb (don’t want to be that idiot), but I’m here to say that thing slides like a knife on butter when you want it to and yet the control is so superb you just let it gracefully hook up without letting off or back off slightly on throttle to let it grab hold. And the sound!! We’re talkin’ the sound of American muscle car in a luxury euro sport car! That’s it I’m going for a ride…

ditto. I bought one late October 04 and couldn’t agree more. I previously owned a Lexus GS-430 and prior to that a Lexus GS-300 and thought both cars were awesome. That is until i found out that the 645 came in a hard top. Test drove one out of curiosity, with no plans to buy one at all. After my test drive, I was sprung. Ordered the 645 and placed my GS-430 for sale. Driving the car is, I would imagine, like taking a hit of an addictive narcotic. Have had it 2+ months and am still in awe of the car. I plan to take the professional driving course (BMW in Spartenburg) that is included in the price to heighten my knowledge of the car. Still sprung!!!
